STUDIO LOCATION UNIT 1A, 400 CHAPEL ROAD, SOUTH WINDSOR, CT, 06074
Dan is an experienced tutor for violin and fiddle music and he tailors his lessons to suit the individual needs for students of all ages. He studied music instruction as well as advanced music theory as part of his Bachelor of Music (Hons) at ICMus. At the very start of the violin journey, he focuses on music theory elements, secure posture and also bow-hold techniques which are strongly influenced by his twelve years of ABRSM classical training. As the student becomes more comfortable with the violin, Dan aims to see which direction the student wishes to take their music and introduces appropriate study pieces accordingly. As a specialist in fiddle music, he will convey to his students the sheer wealth, joy and community surrounding the playing of traditional music. However if the student reaches a more advanced stage of playing and wishes to fully focus solely on classical repertoire, Dan is happy to refer them to established classical violin tutors in the area. Dan will work with sheetmusic as well as aural teaching methods at the request of the student since he possesses a large collection of established tune books as well as a substantial digital audio archive to aid the study of traditional fiddle music.
Testimonials - "Dan is a phenomenal teacher." ~ Andrew Decker, co-director of Downright Music, Collinsville, CT - "I had less than a year’s experience with violin from over 15 years ago when I started studying with Dan. After my first lesson I was already working on a familiar tune and looking forward to the next lesson. In 9 months I’ve progressed from barely able to find the note to learning fairly complicated (for me) tunes. He’s very open to teaching tunes I know from Scottish Country Dance and other sources. His style of teaching is relaxed and encouraging. His enthusiasm for traditional tunes is infectious. It’s a treat to listen to him play and I always look forward to lessons." ~ Karen Pestana, Scottish Dance Expert
